FOOD PANTRY

The Food Pantry’s mission is to increase access to food for hungry people, and empower them to help each other.  Hunger hurts, it damages mental and physical health, it lowers performance in school and at work, and the strain it causes can tear families apart.  Hunger contributes to many social ills, from domestic violence to drug use to theft or resort to doing something desperate. Reducing the prevalence of hunger can cause a ripple of positive changes throughout a community.  The food pantry will be available as long as the school community will support this endeavour.  Please feel free to speak with any of our teachers or staff if you are in need.  Your request will be kept confidential.

**The school wants to give a big THANKS to the participants in the 1st Annual McIntosh Volleyball Tourney on May 5, 2013 in the Town of McIntosh for the donated food.**

Help us in Uniform Recycling

At MAS we have children that are in need of uniform shirts, shorts, pants, sneakers and hoodies.

Help replenish the school's uniform store.  We give these items away to the most needy of our student body.  School children grow at different rates and within a short space of time there can soon be be a surplus of barely worn uniforms that could and should be reused.  Soon school will be over and you'll have uniforms that your child will have outgrown by the start of the next school year.  You may bring them in to the Main Office.

Thank you

PTA

The following link takes you to a National PTA website where documents have been placed by grade level that explain in layman’s terms the basics of Common Core. This may be a reference if you are an interested parent/stakeholder for a basic overview. It is also in Spanish (which is nice).  Just another tool.

Notice to Parents and Guardians

There are safety procedures regarding visitor/volunteer sign-in. A computer system in the front office requires visitors/volunteers to enter his/her name and choose a reason for being on campus.   The system then automatically prints out a name badge. You MUST show a current picture ID when signing in. Keep this information in mind when visiting and please allow for the extra time needed when signing in. Also, remember that visitors are required to sign out through this system, since it keeps track of each visitor's time spent on campus.

Thank you for your patience!

McIntosh Charter Garners Extension

For the first time in district history, a charter school in Marion County has a 13-year agreement with the School Board. Normally, the agreement would be in five-year increments.

School Board Chair Judi Zanetti and fellow Board members Angie Boynton and Bobby James favored the idea of extending the charter for McIntosh Area School to help the school secure funding for a new facility.  That funding would likely come from the federal government.  The original recommendation was for the school to remain on a five-year contract. After this move, McIntosh Area School’s charter with the School Board ends in 2021.  Originally started in 2003, McIntosh Area School now has 98 students.

No Child Left Behind

====================================================================================

SPAR Report

The No Child Left Behind Legislation requires schools to prepare an annual school report card and distribute to the public “prior to the opening of school” each year. The annual No Child Left Behind-School Public Accountability Report (NCLB-SPAR) serves as this report, and contains information about the progress of Florida’s public schools. In addition to detailing how well our schools are meeting the federal requirements of NCLB, this report also reflects our progress toward meeting the state’standards. You may review MAS's report by clicking on this link or review a paper copy in the Main Office.

No Child Left Behind School Public Accountability Reports
It is also available for review in the Grants and Federal Programs Office and available for viewing on the DOE website at: NCLB Spar.

Title I

McIntosh Area School has a Title I School-Wide Program in place. Over 40% of our students are eligible for Free/Reduced lunch which qualifies us to participate in a School-Wide Project. Title I is the largest federally funded program for education under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). The goal of NCLB is to raise the achievement levels of ALL children to meet the state's academic standards. To assist us in meeting this goal, Title I funds are allocated to our school. These funds may be used to offer additional services to help all students in the classroom by providing extra teachers and/or teacher assistants, additional learning time through after school and summer programs, and/or extra resources, such as equipment, computers, and learning materials to improve the reading, writing, and math performance of our students.  All parents are encouraged to be a part of the planning, review, and improvement programs funded through Title I.  Copies of the 2011-2012 District Parent Involvement Plan (PIP) is available in the front office, at the Title I Office and on the District website.  The District Parent Involvement Plan (PIP) click below.

The world's largest student art gallery showcases artwork from McIntosh Area Charter School students!

Come see the artwork and honor our students! Leave comments for the artists!!!

I am happy to be a part of MAS and to offer art classes to the students! I love nature, all kinds of art and most of all working with children.  I am originally from Miami, but have lived on Orange Lake with my husband and four children for 30 years. I received my BA in Childhood Education from the University of Florida with certification to teach Art K-12.  I home-schooled my own children through elementary school and have taught art classes to children in schools, parks, libraries and museums for the last 31 years.

I am also the instructor for Marion County Parks and Recreation’s “Art Van Go” mobile art class and the Home-School Art Program at Brick City Adventure Park in Ocala.

“I believe in encouraging students to discover and create with the visual language of art.  This strengthens student problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and gives the student an appreciation for art in the world past and present”.

M. Jane Gravois, Art Consultant

I have posted several of the students pictures on this site for all to enjoy.
